Denim Corner: Levi's Vintage 1944 501XX Jean

Levi's Vintage 1944 501 'war' jean, a loose regular fitting straight leg jean, a touch slimmer in the leg than the 1983 501, and this style also has a higher rise.

During World War II, the US government ordered clothing manufacturers to remove a certain amount of metal, fabric and thread from their garments to conserve these important raw materials for the war effort. As a result, the 1944 501 was the first style without cinch back, coin pocket rivet, crotch rivet. It also has a hollowed out buttons, along with lilac painted arcuate stitching as the thread was considered "false stitching".
